To date, though, far too little of this scholarship has been made accessible to English-speaking readers. This collection, the first of its kind, seeks to enhance and expand access to recent oral history and related work from the Iberian world - broadly defined - that has not been previously translated or otherwise made easily available to English readers. As such, it enhances intellectual exchange among oral historians, sociologists, ethnographers, and other practitioners across geographical and linguistic divides.

The contributions that are brought into conversation here coalesce around the common themes of memory and identity, focusing on the formation of individual subjectivities and collective identities in response to common social conditions in Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countries in the late 20th and early 21st centuries, including dictatorships and their aftermaths, political and labor struggles, migration, changing youth cultures, and the cultural and economic forces of globalization.
